Traitor

I feel like the biggest douche bag in the world right now. I'm a jerk that just completely disregards the feelings of anyone else. It's really not hard to see why I'm not really friends with anyone outside the internet. I'm not a good person. I'm selfish and cold-hearted, and I don't care about anyone else. I'm a horrible person...

I'm no good to anyone in real life, either. I laze around, taking up space, cause I don't have any useful talents and I lack the initiative to try getting a real job. I'm a parasite, leeching off of my parents, who I wouldn't be surprised if they're ashamed of me. I wouldn't blame them. I'd be pretty pissed too if I let such a piece of shit jerkass into the world.

Tof's a saint for being so willing to put up with me...

"Bro'kemon" and a lil note

As i mentioned over 6 months ago, I've been on a waiting list for a surgery. It finally got scheduled to the 16th, and honestly, I've already started shitting bricks.

However that's not the point of this post. Just wanted to warn that while I'm in the hospital, the Oekaki board will be down. It's not a massive surgery and I may be back home by the end of the day, but really can't be sure.

If you haven't checked the Oekaki in a while, there's a new doodle of Io drawn on it by gunstarfire.

Meanwhile, I'll be busy stressing out.

Zach linked me to this yesterday, it's pretty funny.

The best part is at 10 secs.

My Bday cake (not entirely sure if this is NSFW or not)

My Bday was December 30th, but I didn't celebrate it for personal reasons.

So my mom wanted me to do it in January, which is fine by me. My cousin worked in a bakery for a few months, so she had "connections", and I dunno who's idea it was, but yesterday, this is what they put on the table:

Those are actually fucking huge.

I thought it was silly, and didn't quite care for how it tasted. But heh, it made for a lot of jokes that night.

My masochist passion for Ultima IV

I seem to not be easily impressed with videogames like Mass Effect 2 or Oblivion/Skyrim while others sing it praises. But recently, I re-watched Spoony's review of Ultima IV with Bitten, and after a bit, It all started to make sense.

So here's a lil of my backstory.

As a lad, I got Ultima IV for the Sega Master System, and for the longest time, wasn't even able to play it seeing as a was a 10 year old french kid with very little knowledge of the English language.

Ultima IV came with 2 books, and a map. Those weren't for shits and giggles, you really needed them to play the game.

While being frustrated with my efforts to play the game, I would read the books (which thankfully for me were in french) and actually be really impressed with how much detail there was in the game. As a kid, I really like the spellbook in particular.

Almost every year I would pick up the game again and have this period of time where I would "fuck around with it" and try to play it, eventually learning about the game, the objective (which isn't all that clear) and in the process, learning English as well.

I think my first real attempt to play the game was when I was 13 or 14, and it took me ages, I got far, but didn't beat it.

Backstory of the game.

Spoony covered most of this in his review, but I'll try to add to it.

Doing a lil reseach on Wikipedia, I see that the game is/was considered one of the best roleplaying games of all time. Although mostly by old faggots like myself.

Apparently, the Ultima series were around when people were coming down on D&D because of possible "hidden satanic messages", and videogame RPGs were starting to be targeted as well.

Richard Garriott, creator of the Ultima series, was starting to get harassed about his games possibly having a hidden satanic meaning behind them, and that influenced him in the creation of Ultima 4.

Quoting from his biographer:
He decided that if people were going to look for hidden meaning in his work when they didn't even exist, he would introduce ideas and symbols with meaning and significance he deemed worthwhile, to give them something they could really think about.
The result, not your ordinary RPG.

I think it's a fun fact that Garriott was the only person to beat the game during the playtesting.

So what is this game actually like?

I think this line of the Ultima IV Wikipedia page says it best:
Ultima IV differs from most RPGs in that the game's story does not center on asking a player to overcome a tangible ultimate evil.
After the first 3 games, there were drastic geographic changes in the land, "continent rose and sank"describes well what is meant by that. New cities arose and eventually the world was unified under Lord British's rule.

Here's where it gets sketchy for me: To give the people purpose in this relative age of peace, he proclaims the quest of the Avatar.

The Avatar shall be the spiritual example for all to follow, and shall embody all 8 virtues.

Basically, It's a Quest where someone has to become a fucking saint.
The game follows the protagonist's struggle to understand and exercise the Eight Virtues. After proving his or her understanding in each of the virtues, locating several artifacts and finally descending into the dungeon called the Stygian Abyss to gain access to the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom, the protagonist becomes an Avatar.
It's so much harder than it sounds. On my own, before I even had internet, I had managed to obtained Avatarhood, completed all dungeons except for the Stygian Abyss.

What I liked and how this influenced me.

The conduct of the main character was strict. You are meant to be a virtuous hero, so you had to act like one.

We've all seen people act like asshats in RPGs and it really has little to no consequence, and to me, it doesn't feel like role playing. It's more about "how can i break this game the most" or "can I get away with this?" than playing a role

Although the goal is to become the avatar, but you have the freedom to do anything you want in Ultima IV if you so choose to.

You can kill NPCs, steal the royal treasury, scam merchants, steal horses, etc. Things like, "If you attack someone in a town all the guards will attack you" were already in that game.

You can make yourself extremely powerful right from the start of the game if you have no morals, the side effect being that you'll make your quest much harder and longer to complete.

For me, modern games have less or just about the same level of dept or freedom of action that Ultima IV introduced me so many years ago.

I've looked at the 3 other versions of Ultima IV and the Sega Master System one is so much more colorful and pleasant to look at. the sprite work is simple, but to me, it works and it feels nice to look at.

I really love this game, the fact that you don't have a "go kill the bad man" objective is so neat as well. I can't think of another RPG where your goal is pretty much build a religion based on the best ideals of mankind.

I sometimes spend hours listening to the main theme of the game. The mellow soothing theme that I like to imagine is being played by a bard without tentacles.

I may try again to beat this game in the near future, was wondering if it'd make a good Let's Play, but prolly not.

This is where I start rambling like an old man.

When Oblivion was first introduced, people bragged about such features like they were amazing things, but to me, it's been done in fucking 1990. Maybe just shows I'm old compared to the majority of gamers.

Fact is, videogames haven't really evolved much when it comes to depth. One could argue they just got worse with time. But maybe I dislike how everything has to be 3D and look ugly.

Oblivion had a lot of elements that Ultima IV had, but it looks so fucking horrible I could not get into it all that much. After playing Oblivion for an hour, you start craving fucking color diversity.

And I know people will tell me it's the ambiance of the game, and I'll tell them to fuck your ambiance it looks boring at hell. Skyrim does not look interesting in the least to me either.

Any game that has to have no visual style and has to go with realism is fucking boring to look at. I see realism every day when I wake up and it doesn't give me a hard-on anymore. You can make 3d games and not make them look depressingly realistic, invest into a fucking art director.

Another thing is how 3D actually makes any task you have to perform much more complicated and a chore. Everything takes longer and requires more effort because it's all done in real time. They kinda get how traveling is fucking boring and implemented fast travel in Oblivion, but it's really everything that is too slow and boring.

Ultima IV can take a rather long time to beat, but it plays fast. If it played like Oblivion, it'd take a fucking month of continuous playing.

Ironically, Ultima IV doesn't have that problem. I don't get this modern need to waste everyone's time walking, dealing with NPCs and even cutscenes. These "problems" were actually added over time for some strange reason and serve no purpose other than to annoy.

Want an example? doesn't even have to be 3D, the pokecenters. Fucking why?

There is literally something like the pokecenter in Ultima IV, it's Lord British himself. He asks you if you're ok, you say no, and bang, healed. You have to navigate the menu but it still won't take half as long as a damn pokecenter.

Well, I'm done. Hope someone found this interesting.

Late-Ass Halloween

I sorta missed out on Halloween this year, so I did this lazy bullcrap to "make-up" for it. Wanted to do something naughtier and involving Dana, since "around Halloween" is sort of her anniversary. But I should know better than to be ambitious or try to do anything more complicated than a scribble. Trying to do a large project is a sure-fire way to guarantee I'll never finish it. Which is sort of humiliating considering how simple the crap I do is.

No, I'm serious. The power was out for the whole street, and the next day we had a bowl full of candy, which I quickly relieved of all it's peanut butter cups. The entire block decided to have our own Halloween about a week later. It was pretty neat. It was kinda like one of those lame family movies that are really feel-good and cheesy. Except it really happened.

Personal update and "Circletine"

Ok, first an update on why nothing much has been posted.

I've been quite ill with 2-3 things wrong with me at a time, and one of those things requires me to have an operation in more or less... 12 days or so.

No one else is posting much cause they're faggots, ok not really...

I had to FORCE Zach to fix his computer by reinstalling Windows on it (telling him how step by step), which made him mad at me at the time but he's settled down. I've been helping him set up his compy and all the essentials are installed now, including Photoshop so you can expect to see stuff from Zach soon either on here, DA or FA.

Bitten has fallen in love with a British soldier named Charles while he was performing his military duty and is now having this homoerotic relationship with the man, Also, I'm lying and he's just lazy to post here, just can't get him to do it much. Maybe if he felt people checked the blog he would.

As for Jimmy, he's prolly molesting cat girls with his tentacles somewhere...

and now an interlude:
Not for the faint of heart...

Because of my health, i been spending ridiculous amounts of time in bed to avoid pains. I've been nagging the others to post, but Zach couldn't, and Bitten is racist towards me cause I'm a lil taller than him.

Hopefully, I'll get the guys to take over posting while I'm fucked up.

Life signs

Ok i guess i should explain the lack of posts lately.

Bitten started his anual "military service" which is fancy lingo for "doing push ups in the mud for 2 weeks". Zach's silent, like crabs... and Jimmy's busy with college as usual.

Me, well, i was working on a sprite animation, but then on a whim, tried playing mafia wars again, and to my surprise, i find that i can constantly level up.

When i picked the game up again i was level 267 or so, a week later i was well over level 600.

I'm the hot chick on the left, Shigoto is the manly whore on the right.

But mostly, i haven't been doing much of anything because i found out that there is an english version of Dynasty Warriors Online AND it's free.

It's been ages since i last played a DW game and it's been a blast kicking ass and taking names. I even got our friend Shigoto to play with me.

This is the most awkward MMO I've ever played though, basic things like trading do not exist in this and you can't really sell your things to NPCs to make money. The economy is really odd.

There's been a few noteworthy things about gaming lately but i just haven't been in the mood to post here.

However, Steam is doing a week long sake on squeenix crap, BUT (And this happened to my friend Al):

JUST CAUSE 2 DOES NOT RUN ON WINDOWS XP!!!

The game is really cheap right now, but fucking read the notice, it doesn't run on XP. A bunch of people have bought and gifted the damn thing without reading this and they're suck with a game they can't use now.

That notice should b way WAY bigger and in the frontpage.

There's A Lot of Tags on This Box

That's right! I just managed to use Blogger to make a lame joke about presents! I am THE MASTER.

So I decided to cheese Christmas this year by just doodling one picture for the people that bother talking to me on a daily basis/big contributors for inane things we do/people I didn't forget about, instead of doing them individually. Also you can marvel at my use of Photoshop filters to make it seem as if I spent more than 10 minutes on the "background".

But seriously, happy holidays everyone. :)

Sweet day

Today is a good day, why? well i'll tell ya.

2 days ago, my ISP was down for 50 mins, and while it was down, I randomly decided to dick around with my modem settings and found the port forwarding options, which were oddly hidden.

As a result, I got the Oekaki is back up. Which is good cause i was lazy about removing the button on the side.

Another reason today is good is cause i thought another of my cats went missing (would had been 7th one this year) but turns out he took a day off.

Yet another reason today is great is because i made a rather awesome deal in TF2, as shown bellow:

Yes, i got a Vintage Kabuto hat for 7 weapons. I'm that awesome. I'm thinking of lending it to Zach if he likes it.

Kinda sucks that Zach currently can't play TF2 cause his connection drops if he tries. So I've been getting items AND hats that we both need/want by myself. And doing a damn good job at that.

Speaking of TF2, According to the TF2 Blog, If you pre-purchase "Poker Night at the Inventory", You automatically get 1 hat for the heavy and when the game is online you can earn 5 more items for TF2.

I wouldn't normally consider it, but the game is really really cheap.

And still on the subject of TF2, I submitted my 2nd model to the TF2 "contribute" site:

It's a misc slot pipe for the Spy. I suggested that it'd b used for the medic and sniper as well, but i don't think it will be done.

Simply because for the spy, it's easy, he has bones already there cause of his cigarette. The other classes have nothing to attach it to.

Good day indeed.

A small note

First of all, it's been brought to my attention that some people visit the blog but do not comment on it because they don't want to make a "blogger" account. There's no such thing as a blogger account, it's a Google account (if you have gmail you have one), also u can use a Wordpress/Livejournal/Typepad/AIM/OpenID account to post comments here.

Anyway.

Yesterday i was playing Dead Rising 2 when i suddenly got a blue screen of death, mostly my bad, was forcing the game to run windowed with an app that confused my nvidia drivers (note to self, might want to update those...).

I now have 3 dead drives, i wonder if i could make one of these...

However, when i restarted, my 2nd hard drive started making a loud scary noise, the "I'm-gonna-stop-working-soon-and-u're-gonna-lose-all-ur-crap!" kind of noise.

I'm gonna get myself a 1 Tb external drive and backup all my shit, and then run some tests on the drive.

With that, i got a question.

Does anyone know of software that would auto copy/update stuff from my computer to the external drive, like, once a day? I've had 2 hard drive failures in the past that made me lose way too much of my work, i still remember the deep state of shock and disbelief. If it happened to you before, u know exactly what i mean.

There's a slight chance however that later today my computer will b down, and since the Oekaki has been getting some use, and since it is hosted on my computer, I thought i'd let ya guys know that today isn't the best day to doodle on it.

Should b fine by the 11th though (which also happens to b Bliss' anniversary).

With that said, anyone know where i can get hosting for an Oekaki and Wiki with no ads or content restrictions? Reinstalling my computer is always an issue, but the hardest part to reinstall is the local server to host the Oekaki. And the current Wiki is plagued with ads that are just shitty.

Connecticon Commissions

Here's some more stuff I did during my little trip a while back. You know what they say: The devil's hands are idle playthings. Or something like that.

Awkwardly convenient timing

So yesterday I made this post about social networks, it's a subject i really never talk about or give much thought on, and when i went to dinner, there was a crime investigation show on TV, and guess what the "theme" for that crime was? fucking social networks.

Although it doesn't happen often, there's been many instances of my life when things seemed to happen on cue, Almost like some sort of superior being was manipulating the events in my life to make them seem oddly convenient.

It's like finding the key to the toolbox where u keep your soldering iron in, which u haven't needed in years, just hours before something breaks and you can use the soldering iron to fix it. Or learning the meaning of a word you've never ever heard the day before someone u met actually uses it in a convo with you.

Since I'm almost done with the new layout, I started fucking around with a possibly bar idea: The post header. On a crazy idea I'm making the header of posts look like the top of a game hud, as in, a lifebar, mana/power bars, stats, etc...

Cute art that Jimmy made the other day, thought it was cute enough to post.

I thought it'd b neat because cause we can use a portrait of the poster, everyone could have different stats and, really, the more i talk about it the more i think it might b a bad idea...

I'm still enjoying fiddling around with it because i have been needing an HUD for a project or mine, and this is rather good practice. I will most likely drop the idea and make simple simple and clean looking for the blog though.

Spoony just posted 2 videos about the Ultima series, i have only played 1 of the games, Ultima IV, but it was a game that had a huge impact on me and that i'll never forget. that is not to say i liked or hated the game, it just had an impact is all.

So I'm looking forward to whenever Spoony does video 5 of that. u can find video 1 here and video 2 here.

Also, for the hell of it:

Sounds like an orgasm, or going into labor?

Web "social" stuffs

About a week ago, when I told Jimmy i was fiddling with a possible new layout, he saw that I put on share buttons for social networks.

We started talking about how we're both old men and hate them fancy gay ass social networks and their buttons. I mean some sites have like 15+ of those buttons so you can share whatever on anything with great urgency to the masses!

Call me old, but back in my day, all we needed to share a page was it's URL, and that was it.

These are the buttons Blogger makes available for sharing.

So it's E-mail, Blogger itself, Twitter, Facebook and Google Buzz. All these buttons do is save you like, 2 clicks though. Are these so necessary? Are people so lazy now?

Ok, granted it's stupid to complain about added convenience, but the thing is, i've never met anyone who ever used these. I think I know people lazy enough to appreciate those, but to most people, these buttons became part of the decoration.

in the end, I'll probably add these in the next version of the layout, since this stuff is meant for the readers and not the authors. And I'm declaring right now that the main reason I'll b adding these is decoration.

Oh also, there's officially 4 Mighty Panty Raiders now. Our 4th member hasn't posted yet though and i don't wanna spoil who it is, even though if you're clever you can easily find out who it is.

PC gaming and a small notice.

Most people have heard of BlazBlue, not everyone has played it though since the damn thing was only on consoles.

It seems that it was recently released for PC though. I hoping to give it a try soon.

Also if you played majesty 2 and liked it, there's an expansion out for it. I played it and beat it, and it's pretty decent. I do love that game and enjoy every new map i get to play of it. Speaking of which, this expansion comes with a map editor.

It's very challenging but doesn't really bring new elements. Think of it as a mission pack. Hence why I'm not going to bother with a review of it.

On a side note, My character Dandel's anniversary is on the 7th.

Hot Hands

Valve claims they're trying to work more skill into the little bastion of anonymity the Pyro...But all they really seem to be doing is encouraging more people to use the Flare Gun.

In any case, here's a little doodle of the malformed, mumbling miscreant. I was doodling it for a little long-term side project(that I'll probably never finish), but it didn't really fit in with the other stuff I did for it. But I liked it enough that I decided not to obliterate it from existence.

In other news I'll be heading off for Connecticon soon. Truth be told I'm a bit nervous about it.

I'm now 29

And i really am sick of editing the profile pic, we'll try to come up with something new for that.

Anyway, yea, I'm old. That is all.

EDIT: Oh and Btw, XP 32bit reinstalled, all bugs are gone, Oekaki back up.

Trick or Treet

Sorry Dana, but you really should know better than to wear heels by now, especially not on Halloween.
