Dilemas and Dubs

So, me and most of my friends that use Steam have been winning games and packs, however, it's stuff we already have or don't want.

I'm thinking about setting up a page on the blog for trading the stuff I don't want, however I imagine it won't be too effective. So can anyone who visits the blog let me know if there's some site that specializes on steam trades?

If someone replies with a good site for trading, I'll edit this post, if not, I'll start figuring something else.

I am so not going to the steam forums though, fuckfest.

Aside from that, Shigoto linked me to a re-dub of fist of the north start. I thought it was really good.

It's well done and funny, but there's only 2 episodes so far.

Xmas break is over, time to play Rokko Chan

I think we all took a few days off to wrestle our relatives into submission to leave us alone.

Hope everyone got something nice this Xmas. I got a fucking pen, a pocket knife and a broken flashlight, so winning Portal 2 was pretty awesome for me cause it kept me from going crazy during Xmas.

Anyway, I found a fanmade Megaman clone flash game, except Megaman is a girl in it. It's got it's own characters and robot masters.

I've played it a bit, and it feels rather solid gameplay wise, spriting is actually impressive in the sense that it's all 8-bit and rather well done. nice music as well.

Feels very retro, although the game does take advantage of the fact it's made in flash as there is sprite rotation that would had been impossible on the NES. Although personally, I have no problem with that.

I think it's made in the spirit of Megaman 1, which was hard as balls. This isn't as hard in my opinion, but definitely not meant to be easy.

A gamepad + joy2key is highly recommended for this.

Didn't really have anything to post until...

Tis the season to put up with family, so not much to post about.

However, I made a post about Steam's Xmas achievements some days ago and how it gives random prizes. Well, it's been a few days and I know what me, Zach, and Bitten have gotten so far. Here's the verdict on that:

  • 1st day, me and Zach got coupons, Bitten was lucky enough to freaking win Half Life 1.
  • 2nd day, no one did any achievements.
  • 3rd day, everyone got 2 coals.
  • 4th day, no one bothered.
  • 5th day (today), I dunno about the guys yet, but I got a coal, however, I gathered 7 coals already and crafted them, and I got:

I'm still trying to figure if this is real of if I went to sleep and I'm dreaming this. If i am dreaming this I'm gonna be so pissed in the morning.

But yea, this Steam event is turning out pretty good so far. I highly encourage you guys to get them achievements, you might get lucky.

P.S: Before you get jealous, this is literally the only thing I'm getting for Xmas.

Edit: Not sure about claiming the gift, I'm reading around that I wouldn't get extra copies of the games I already own, So I'd be wasting a copy of TF2, L4D, L4D2 and Portal.

Talk about a twist for an LP

It's just kinda interesting to see someone do that. The Slowbeef and Diabeetus commentary is nice too.

Pretty long vid, but me and Zach watched all of it and liked it.

Steam Holiday Sale

So once again, Steam is doing holiday sales, and they're doing achivements at the same time for people to earn small tiny baby rewards that range from free games to coupons.

Obviously some of these achievements require games and those games will most likely be on sale on that day.

There's also daily deals, which is nice.

Sales make me wish there was something I would want in the steam store. Hope you guys find something ya like.

Kenshiro is the hero Batman could never be (Aka Batman sucks)

For quite a while, I've been thinking over in my head how to write this post. Only figured out how to do it recently after re-watching one of the First of the North Star movies.

To explain why I think Batman is a terrible hero, I have the explain the simple point that "Hokuto No Ken - Kenshiro Den Zero" is trying to get across. It's the lesson they try to teach Kenshiro though the movie.

Will now attempt to describe the movie without getting in too many details (cause I love Hokuto no Ken and I get carried away talkin about it.)

Kenshiro, the successor of Hokuto Shinken.

If you've not familiar with Fist of the North Star/Hokuto no Ken, it's the story of Kenshiro becoming the messiah of the post apocalyptic world where super powered martial artists rein supreme. Kenshiro himself is the successor of the Hokuto Shinken martial art.

This particular movie is about a part that wasn't shown in the TV series. Movie starts with Kenshiro being defeated, and the first part of the movie is about a gravely wounded Kenshiro witnessing what the world has become: A lawless wasteland where murder and slavery are common place and where the strong oppress the helpless.

At a point in the movie, a still injured Kenshiro is forced to fight a giant thug, and he wins, but didn't kill him. Back in his cell, The following convo happens:

Old man: Why didn't you kill that Bear Slayer?
Kenshiro: He couldn't kill me... So I had no reason to kill him.
Old man: How selfish of you. That may be very well for you...
Old man: But... Once that man's wounds have healed, he'll go back to killing others without a hint of remorse.
Old man: Next time... It could be this family he kills.

It should be noted at this point that, there were 3 candidates to become the successor of Hokuto Shinken, and out of all of them, Kenshiro is actually the least talented and weakest. Kenshiro however, was picked because he was the most humane one.

This sounds retarded when you consider it's a martial art meant to make people explode from the inside. But there is a flashback showing a convo between Kenshiro and his master where his master says:

Hokuto Shinken is a fist wielded by the god of death himself.
A god of death does not kill out of personal interest.

He kills people for the sake of the people.
To live both as a human... and as a god of death is extremely hard.
However...
The only person who can shoulder such a burden, is you!

In short, Hokuto Shinken is a very powerful martial art. By having a compassionate person as the successor, you have someone that uses the style sparingly and only when necessary. But sometimes you HAVE to kill. That's why the old man calls Kenshiro selfish earlier in the movie, Kenshiro doesn't want to carry the burden of taking lives.

Kenshiro values life, even of evil people, and at the start of the series, he won't kill anyone. But that comes back haunt him when people he spared kill innocents, at the end of this movie he learns that killing truely evil people is necessary to protect the helpless. As the series go on his nature sometimes takes over and he spares a few people that he shouldn't have, and that causes more innocent deaths.

In the end, knowing that you caused innocent deaths with neglect is worse than killing a man is the idea here.

Batman, the hero that protects no one.

I have never been a fan of Batman, I never got into it and for the longest time I couldn't tell why. The appeal of Batman is that he's a normal guy, if being a billionaire is normal to you, then yea, I guess. I mean I get it, it's a guy that has no real superpower that is as competent of a superhero as Superman.

A while back, I started watching a LP of Arkham Asylum, and the game looks great. Gameplay looks fun, it was a really entertaining LP to watch, and Bitten must have been sick of listen to me bitch about how nothing in the Batman universe makes sense.

Now, I could point out the stupidity of Arkham Asylum itself (the institution, not the game) but this is about Batman.

Batman, in many ways, is in the same situation Kenshiro is in: There's evil people killing thousands and there really isn't a place to lock them away. There's no authorities that can protect innocents from these people and both Batman and Kenshiro are the only ones that can do anything about it.

However, Batman really doesn't do much at all about it. A villain escapes, kills hundreds, Batman goes get him and drags his ass into an asylum with the shittiest security ever. (resisting urge to rant about Arkham)

In the game, it gets to the point where the villains just shit on Batman in the sense that, Batman is literally no threat. Worse that can happen is that batman will drag their ass in a cell. In the comic, the Joker is so comfortable with this setup he'll just casually walk to Baraba Gordon's place, shoot her (causing her to become paralyzed), strip her naked, take pictures of her and force her dad to look at those while he's strapped to a ride in the nude himself.

Why? Because he just WANTED TO PROVE A POINT. The Joker can just ruin people's lives to support a thesis because there's no consequence to it for him. He didn't kill anyone that time, but, my god. This is fucking dumb.

"The safest thing you could be in Gothan city is a fucking super villain. That's how fucking ridiculous Batman is."

I don't understand the character at all. It baffles me!

To Batman it's more important to not hurt a super villain than to save a man from being killed right in front of him. What the fuck? This happens so much you really question why is that guy even considered a superhero.

The motivation behind batman is that he became an orphan because a thug killed his parents in an alley. So he became a hero that pretty much allows other kids to become orphans too?

I know this is going into a dark area where it sounds like I'm defending the death penalty, but these are fictional worlds where violence is out of control and there's no one who can do shit about it except the main character. And unlike what Batman believes, you can't be everywhere at the same time all the time.

At one point when watching the LP I was just asking Bitten:

"Why won't he even fuck up these villains? If Batman bent the Joker's knees and elbows backwards every time he escaped and MURDERED people, don't you think maybe the Joker would be SLIGHTLY afraid of Batman? The guy just fucking slaughters people, and Batman gives him mild bruises! What the fuck is this shit!"

So many people die because of Batman's neglect, so many lives ruined, just because he has a moral code that doesn't even really make sense with his back story.

Fuck Batman.

New Bro Team Pill: Painkiller

"THE DEVIL STOLE YOUR TITS! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!"

For me, this one was easily one of their best. Kinda of a relief cause they've been ok, but starting to feel a lil stale lately.

Obligatory sewers once again, never gets old. So much quotable stuff in this, love it.

Forsaken World: Xmas event

Oh boy, This event feels like a clusterfuck right now, I'm writing this post as I figure out things so bare with me.

Duration
  • Til January 3rd

First of all and quite important: The event ONLY TAKES PLACE ON THE TRADE REALM.

The event seems composed of simple quests that reward you with "Festival badges". Your first quest can be acquired on the city square, from there, you'll have to travel into the dwarven starting area and find a (most likely clusterfuck'd) camp with trees and NPCs.

So those NPCs will give you quests and you'll earn badges as rewards, the Santa looking NPC is a merchant, and for a number of badges will sell you stuff ranging from pets, to food, recipes and a footprint card.

Can't really recommend anything to get so far. Personally, I'm gonna go try the recipe.

Additionally, under each decorative Xmas tree, You'll sometimes see a present box with a Green "!" on it, you can collect those and open them, usually they have really good food/drinks in them. There's an achievement for getting all of them.

Some of these have a chance to give you badges as well.

Forsaken World: A personal victory

Ok, I probably should explain this a lil.

As i mentioned ages back, perfect world (who hosts forsaken world) has a store where you can trade in achievement tokens for items.

There's achievements for every class in the game, so multiple characters on the same account actually greatly helps towards that. Even though I've played the game the longest, Bitten has 3 fairly high characters on his account, as opposed to me having only 2.

Bitten noted to me a while back that he was close to being able to buy the cat pet (which is the best thing you can buy in the shop). Deep down I was a lil annoyed by it. I mean, I know I'd get to that pet eventually, but i wanted to be first since I started playing months before him.

Last time I checked the shop, I was like, 40 tokens away. When I checked it a bit ago I yelled out "Whoa Nelly!" and decided to rub it in on Bitten's face!

Haven't had things go my way for a long time lately, so I'm blowing this way out of proportion, but fuck you guys, I'm gonna enjoy what little I get.

I'm only doing this cause I know Bitten's a good sport anyway. He's a great person and an awesome friend so I know he'll prolly laugh at this.

On a related note, FW announced a Xmas event. But I'm tired so I'll post the details for it tomorrow.

My tweets about the lastest TF2 update

Very often, I end up reviewing or giving my opinion on things on tweeter. Why? well, it's easy, fast and just text. Also, my poor grammar is excusable. However, only some friends follow me on twitter.

Anyway, just trying out this post format where I show what I saw and then my tweets reacting to it.

Oh boy, fucking more hair hats for the engi, right away my face is deeply buried in my hands. The wrench could be vaguely useful i guess.

the "rifle" could ruin ubers i guess, so that seems sorta ok? i think? if it has the same clip size and fire rate as the shotty, do want.

Ok, trying really hard to think of a good thing about the pyro stuff, nothing comes to mind yet.

You can't stop using the Axetinguisher, cause Valve made it so that's the main way to kill with the pyro, airblasting is pretty vital too.

Like the engi's rifle, We don't have enough info on the gun. Occurs to me pyro hat + engi hat = Soldier's Grordbort's set.

Oh joy, another top hat? fuck Valve. Love the idea of a new map though, pity it's CP and i don't play that. medieval would had been nice.

I'm not sure this is a good format for blog posts. Maybe I just wanted to play with html a lil.

You're Sitting on My Jacket, Samurai

I did this a ways back during an influx of busty sorceress artwork. Made me tempted to do it myself. It's an alternate universe version of Razz, or something.

It was around this point I'd also started experimenting with giving her thicker eyebrows.

New Bro Team Pill: War in the North

Epic seizure sewer theme! Decent vid, liked it.

Is there some weird law that makes it mandatory for videogames to have sewer levels now? I mean, it's been a well known fact for the past 10 years that EVERYONE hates sewer levels.

The only sewer level in any game that people tolerate is in turtles in time!

HOLY BALLS! I may have misjudged this game!

I'm speechless!

"Fighterpedia" by TheSw1tcher

Fighterpedia is a relatively new series of videos from TheSw1tcher, who also makes the great series "Two Best Friends Play" which I praised in a post ages ago.

Can't really explain Fighterpedia, I'm not even sure if it has a format at all really.

It's really random stuff about fighting games. One video was about the Street Fighter concept art, another was about comparing South Town to Metrocity in terms of worse place to live in, and this one, well, it's about grapplers.

Annoyingly, most of his videos are on the Machinima Channel, but he announces everything on his channel.

As someone who loves to play older fighting games and has played tons of them, this stuff is fun for me to watch. I bet Jimmy would get a kick out of this as well.

Loved that Yamazaki was in it, although I'm not even sure he's a grappler. I'm a lil disappointed Tizoc wasn't in this video, or Shermie. Female grapplers don't seem too common outside of SNK.

Killing Floor Xmas event 2011 + New weapons

So, new Killing Floor Xmas event, dunno much about it, I think it's the same as last year's with a different map.

That is not the important thing here! the important detail is, glorious new weapons! fuck yea!

So i popped in the game, and most of these are great!

  • The medic class gets what feels like a better bullpup that can still shoot healing darts
  • Demo class gets an assault rifle, alt fire shots a powerful grenade, slow as hell reload though.
  • Sharpshooters get magnums, can be dual wielded, powerful shots, but SUPER SLOW RELOAD.
  • Firebugs get a husk gun! and you can charge the shot for an explosive shot, awesome!
  • Berserker gets a claymore, slower than the katana, but seems to do mad damage.
  • Commando gets another assault rifle that can double as a sniping weapon, really good.
  • Support get a really nice shogun that felt like it had awesome penetration.

If you used to like playing Killing Floor, You should pop on and try these. The new weapons are all top tier or just bellow it.

Gotta say, just played a game to try these new weaps, but there's this weird feeling of immersion on killing floor I don't get from anything else, I kinda like that. The game really needed more game modes or something, cause it is quite good, there's a certain feeling of intensity when you play and people really seem to stick together and help each other.

It's not an awesome game, but, there's something about it I like, can't really explain.

Edit: Oh, just saw this:

Forsaken World: Double exp weekends

The best way to level up in forsaken world, besides doing the main quest, is God's Trial. It's a non dangerous instance where the players kill high experience mobs, and then a boss at the end.

Monster exp is generally rather low in Forsaken world, but it's massive in God's Trial.

There's Lionheart scrolls that double monster experience, and with double exp weekends, God's Trial becomes a huge source of experience.

Double experience weekends schedule:
  • December 9th to 12th
  • December 16th to 19th
  • December 23th to 26th
  • December 30th to January 3th

Duration:
  • Begins at 12:01 AM Pacific and end at 11:59 PM Pacific on the first and last days of each double EXP weekend listed above.

Another TF2 vid from Tof

Wanted to try my hand at Vegas 11, with no better idea, picked a TF2 replay that i saved last week where i killed 14 people and got the cart to the end.

It's time consuming, but Vegas 11 is a rather good video editing software, I liked using it.

It crashed on me a few times, but can't say it was it's fault or if i was just running too much crap. However, love that it recovered most things I changed each time.

Some Wakfu fan-characters I guess

From Bitten:

These are the same ones he doodled a while back. I do believe Bitten was considering making a comic using them.

For names, I've suggested calling the guy Luc and the girl Petal. Bitten says he might use those cause coming up with names is hard.

Julie from Stardogs coffee

From Bitten:

I didn't play far enough into Solatorobo to actually know who this is.

Maybe I made a mistake when I stopped playing that game cause a lot of the designs and characters do look really nice.

Wrestler interview: 2 very different remakes

I'm sick and really feelin crappy, so posting moar fav vids.

If i had to pick the one i liked the most, I'd go with the heavy one.
